Madison Albany Bathroom Remodel
BACKGROUND & DESIGN SOLUTIONS
This Albany bathroom remodel refreshed a 20-year-old space, replacing outdated, high-maintenance tile with modern, easy-to-clean materials while maintaining the existing layout. The homeowners wanted a durable, neutral tile for the floors and shower walls, creating a clean aesthetic that was simple to maintain. The homeowner envisioned the space as her “Jewelry Box”, seeking elegant, refined details throughout the design.
A key feature of this remodel is the seamless Hi-Macs shower walls, made of large-format solid surface panels bonded together to eliminate grout lines for effortless cleaning. These panels extend to the ceiling, creating the illusion of added height while maintaining a sleek, cohesive design. The space also incorporates soft, curved elements, from the arched Robern medicine cabinet to the rounded shower glass corner detail, vanity accents, and elegant brass finishes. A warm door and trim color complement the bright white walls and ceiling for a balanced, timeless look.
During construction, it was discovered that the back niche wall was only 2-½” thick instead of the standard 4-½”, which would have compromised storage space. To preserve the spacious niche design, the back wall was carefully furred out, maintaining both aesthetics and practicality. Additionally, with aging in place in mind, thoughtful additions such as grab bars in the shower, a bidet toilet, and an interior-lit medicine cabinet with a magnifying mirror were included for long-term functionality. This Albany bathroom remodel successfully blends modern convenience with timeless charm, resulting in a sophisticated yet highly functional retreat tailored to the homeowner’s needs.
