HDR Remodeling, a full service residential Design & Build contractor, hosted a Lunch & Learn Saturday, August 12 on Building Backyard Cottages. With over 30 years servicing Berkley and the great East Bay Area, HDR Remodeling is the perfect contractor to learn from. The sold out event provided an opportunity for homeowners interested in building accessory dwelling units on their property to join the pros and ask questions ranging from city standards and permitting, to the process and cost of building a backyard cottage. HDR provided examples of past projects done, from building with an existing structure like a garage to building a new construction from the ground up. The seminar covered topics ranging from:
- What is an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)
- Zoning & Planning for an ADU by city including: Berkeley, Oakland, Albany, El Cerrito, and Alameda
- Costs of Construction
- Construction Process
- Next Steps to take when considering an ADU
- Question & Answer session to get the best advice from the pros
- Tour of a recently completed, new construction ADU
The Lunch & Learn offered an opportunity for staff and homeowners to discuss a design and build project, get great advice, and enjoy each other's company. Each attendee received a brochure on the zoning and standards of building an ADU in the city they reside in.
Following the Lunch & Learn, attendees were driven to an open house of a project HDR Remodeling recently completed for a happy client. The ADU open house featured was a 407 square foot new construction with kitchen.
The Backyard Cottage Lunch & Learn was such a success that HDR is already getting requests to host another. If you’ve missed this opportunity to learn more about building an granny flat, there is still an opportunity to attend our next event in October.
