Tiling in a Bathroom Remodel for a Luxury Spa Feel

Luxury Spa Oakland Bathroom Remodel - Beautiful and Functional for the Entire Family

We love working with clients who have a vision - and, finding genuine design talent along the way was just a bonus. When we embarked upon this East Bay bathroom remodel, the clients knew exactly how their new bathroom should look - and function.

Our clients called us back after a successful kitchen remodeling project (which garnered HDR Remodeling a Remmie Award in 2017) to embark upon a refresh and update of their one and only upstairs bathroom.

Working with designer Ana Mathys, the clients had a very clear vision of how their new spa-inspired bathroom would look - and how it would accommodate the entire family’s needs. Tile choices, in particular, were very intentional.

Due to the sheer variety, and countless variations, tile selection can be a daunting process. Our clients needed a bathroom that would wear well, supporting the entire family, and withstand trends, while providing a luxury spa experience. Once again, we turned to the Bay Area’s trusted tile professionals at Import Tile to help narrow down the search.

Because bathrooms are inherently damp, moisture and environmental concerns must be taken into consideration. Likewise, working with large expanses of wall, particularly in the shower, presented its own set of challenges. However, given we were gutting the original bathroom, wall substrate and subflooring material were replaced with waterproof, tile-ready options.

The overall palette for the remodel was a sparkling blend of clean whites, cool grays, and on-trend finishes selected to complement the traditional and transitional design elements. For the shower stall, Import Tile suggested Mesnie Lola Matt for its functionality, uniformity, and long-lasting beauty.

To break up the expanse of the 3” x 9” subway-style tiles, a pop of hexagonal tiles in shower niche differentiates itself in shape and a contrasting grout colors. Lastly, the traditionally patterned floor tile, Ladakhi Gris from Vives,provided the perfect decorative foil for a predominance of white – and right angles.

These versatile, hard-working, yet elegant tile selections were chosen to enliven the inherent sterility of an all-white bathroom.
