Chabot Oakland Kitchen
A MESSAGE FROM THE CLIENT
“My wife and I are thrilled to emphatically recommend HDR Remodeling to anyone considering them for a remodeling project!
Our project was quite massive for a relatively small Rockridge home. In 2017, we bought a 2 bed, 1 bathroom, 1500 sqft, split-story home that had significant damage requiring remedy (we were fully aware of upon purchase!). Roughly 1 year after we first engaged HDR, we moved back into our 3 bed, 2 bath, 1900 sqft home with the polish and preferences we always dreamed of. Suffice it to say HDR did a phenomenal job with everything. We would absolutely work with HDR again on our next project, and encourage you to give them a call!

BACKGROUND & DESIGN SOLUTIONS
This Kitchen remodel was named Kitchen of the Week on Houzz. See more remodeling pictures of this home.
This Mediterranean Revival home remodel in Oakland honors the 1920s character of the home while bringing it into the 21st century and reflecting our clients’ personal style. It was essential to the clients to maintain the character of the home while blending their styles, a mix of modern and vintage with a preference for materials with handmade quality.
Open and bright, the main level is ideal for entertaining and meeting the needs of a growing family. Thoughtful design choices and carefully selected handmade materials makes this home remodel truly one of a kind.
The original layout on the main level was broken up with the kitchen being closed off from the dining room and living room. The kitchen flowed poorly with the rest of the house and had an inefficient layout. It was also separated from the backyard by a small porch. Since the homeowners love to cook and entertain, it was important to open up the space and create a better flow.
It’s all in the details! One of the most striking features is the Shaker-style cabinetry in Studio Green by Farrow & Ball. The dark green adds depth and finesse to the space. Personal touches are found throughout the room. Of note are the built-in shelves in the kitchen, living room, and upstairs bathroom. Made of monkeypod wood, these pieces were crafted by the client’s brother at Revival Woods, an arborist and a woodworker in Hawai’i. Because much of the kitchen design was formal, we paid special attention to the shelves to bring warmth and a casual feeling to the room. The kitchen wall color was custom mixed by the client’s mother, who is an artist.
The kitchen hood is a unique feature, custom-designed with a remote controlled fan inside. The curved detail in the drywall where the hood meets the ceiling echoes the kitchen and dining room archways, and was a cost-effective way for this feature to have the artful, strong presence our clients desired.
