It was essential to the clients to maintain the character of the 1920s home while bringing essential systems like their bathroom into the 21st century. Their style, a mix of modern and vintage can be seen in the aesthetics of the bathroom design. With a preference for materials with handmade quality, they sourced natural materials for the countertop in the guest bathroom. Made of tropical monkeypod wood, the countertop was crafted by the client’s brother, an arborist and woodworker at Revival Woods in Hawaii.

The memorable details don’t stop there. In a nod to the home’s East Bay locale, Heath subway tiles in KPFA Green, originally designed by Edith Heath for KPFA Radio’s broadcasting station in Berkeley, were selected for the master bathroom.
