MLK Berkeley Bathroom Remodel

BACKGROUND & DESIGN SOLUTIONS

HDR Remodeling has worked with these Berkeley clients on numerous home remodeling projects over the years. This remodel was their final bathroom that needed work. Our client’s goal was to create a large en suite bathroom to accommodate their daily routines with a focus on character that aligned with the aesthetics throughout the rest of their home.

To accomplish this, HDR Remodeling demoed the wall between the bathroom and the adjoining guest bedroom to expand the bathroom footprint while maintaining the usability of the smaller bedroom. During the demo, we discovered a structural support beam in the ceiling. With quick finesse, our team incorporated the support beam into the shower stall design.

If there’s one thing HDR Remodeling knows how to do, it’s incorporating one of a kind materials into our remodels. Our clients had custom handmade tiles from India that they wanted to turn into a statement piece in this bathroom remodel. HDR Remodeling rose to the occasion. We incorporated these unique and playful tiles along the wall to wrap around the bathtub, creating a colorful accent and making it a focal point in the room.

Laying down the tile proved to be another intricate process. These handmade tiles were a different thickness and shape than the Carrara marble tiles that bordered it. Our solution was to cut down the handmade tiles to match the width of the surrounding tiles, creating a smooth juxtaposition of the Carrara marble against the colorful decorative tiles from India. The gold accents in the fixtures as well as the accent tiling on the bathroom floor helped to tie the tones of the room together, creating a serene oasis with a hint of playfulness throughout.
