ALAMEDA ADU GUIDELINES
NUMBER OF ADUS PERMITTED: One ADU is allowed per lot that contains one primary residence.
ADU SQUARE FOOTAGE: ADU cannot exceed 1,200 square feet or more than 50% of the primary residence, whichever is less.
TYPES OF ADUS ALLOWED: All types are allowed. (Detached, Attached, Junior)
LOT SIZE: No minimum requirement.
SETBACKS: An attached ADU must comply with all height, building coverage, yard areas, and setback requirements for the primary residence.
PARKING: All units require parking of equal value.
STRUCTURE:
Architectural compatibility of property is required.
ADU must be subordinate in design to the primary residence in terms of massing, height, and building footprint.
